ABC book of Mom

Perfume and azaleas are nice, but this gift is the kind of thing a mother might keep for, oh, 50 years or so. FAMILYFUN reader Vonie Davis of Gorman, Texas, sent us this idea (her son, Drue, made an ABC book for her), and all a child needs to make it is a blank notebook (available at a craft or drugstore) plus crayons or markers.

•Add things like magazine clippings, glitter or photos if you want to get fancy.

•For each letter of the alphabet, the child draws or writes something about his or her mother. If 26 letters seem like too much, the child can start with a couple of letters and add more throughout the year or group several letters together at a time.

•Not only is it a sweet keepsake, but since it’s loaded with compliments and happy memories, this book will also come in handy any time of the year as a pick-me-up after a hard day.

College Plus!

College Plus! is a college program (Christian based) that offers phone coaching and ways to earn a college degree quickly through distance learning–mostly via testing for college credit with the CLEP or DANTES programs; also how to earn college credit at the same time you are doing high school.

The description of College Plus! from their website:

Who We Are

CollegePlus! is a Christian organization that provides students with an innovative approach to earning their accredited bachelor’s degrees in less time and at a fraction of the cost. Through careful navigation and academic coaching, each student acquires a superior level of education without the humanistic pitfalls of traditional secular college. We offer academic expertise for students that desire to more efficiently graduate from a regionally-accredited college.

CollegePlus! students do receive a regionally-accredited degree through Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey, which is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. This is the highest level attainable for an institution of higher learning in the United States. For a listing of accrediting agencies, please visit: www.chea.org.

AudioBlox — for those with reading difficulties

Jonathan, USA

My wife has been working for a year with some kids who have some reading, hearing and memory problems. She discovered a program called AUDIBLOX by Jan Atrydom. The program costs about $200 and comes with 24/7 support from an educational specialist. We have been thrilled with the results! In our case it has helped a child with a reading difficulty to go from a 2nd grade reading level to come up to a 6th grade level in one year.

The international website for AudioBlox is at: http://www.audiblox2000.com/index.htm
