Planning Time ‘“ A Tool
Since uninterrupted time to concentrate is a must for me, my husband takes charge of the children on evening a week while I tackle the school plans. THIS IS A MAJOR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR HOME-SCHOOL EFFORTS, and has become a regular entry on his calendar which takes precedence over other meetings and activities. Like any habit, planning becomes second nature after a while. (By HS mom, Ann Brom.)
Planning With Children
There is a great benefit in planning with each child so he can learn to set goals. This is a valuable life skill. Help your children see that each day and each month as part of a continuum and that the goal is to be equipped for life, not just to complete the pages of the day so they can get it over with. Having your children set goals with you and monitoring their own success is very helpful. (By Ruth Plumb)
Planning For Flexibility
I really enjoy the freedom and flexibility I gain from having all of my subjects planned out for the whole week, because I can then pick any subject on a given day, at the last minute if need be, and it is already planned. This means that when I have a headache, I can just pick a subject that will be easy to teach or is fairly independent. Or on a good day, I can pick the toughest subject and tackle it when I am at my best.
Importance of Immediate Feedback It is important to look over each child’s work everyday, the sooner the better. It is helpful for your children to get immediate feedback. It is invaluable for a child to learn to always correct his mistakes. Not only does a child who consistently must correct his own spelling mistakes learn to spell, but a child who is required to correct his mistakes in any subject develops character in important areas of life. This child learns to be humble ,to have an honest estimate of himself, to admit his mistakes, and to correct the mistakes he will make throughout his life as an adult. (By Joy Marie Dunlap)
