Being new to this whole teaching business I often times go too “by the book”, they do such and such flash cards for the colors, & such and such flash cards for their shapes etc…but today something happened that made me realize that as important as flash cards are for teaching, they are not everything and there has to be a balance, just like everything in life I guess.
So anyways, today I was sorting through some winter hats with my group, and they were super excited because all the hats were these bright colors, when I saw that they liked the hats so much I decided to play a little game with them, which was not on my curriculum
(gasp). We did our colors that way ( i.e. where’s
the pink hat, who’s wearing the yellow hat etc…) and they loved it!!! Not only were they reviewing their colors, but they were having a blast doing it. So really, you don’t have to be in a classroom to teach them, you can be anywhere from outside to the dining room. You can use any situation and turn that into part of their education. You really do learn something new everyday, it’s the little things that make life more interesting. Thank you Jesus!
