Interview with Josiah

1.What started you or motivated you, into teaching kids?
I started teaching English as a second language to kids, teens, & adults & professionals for witnessing & visa purposes. I taught privately, in institutes, in industrial sites, banks, and all kinds of offices, & finally was even permitted to teach two college level courses for a year. I did this for about 5 years. Yet my secret desire was to teach our own children in our communities. Then I had a big change in my ministries and I asked my supervisor to let me try. I started teaching elementary level-phonics, language mechanics, math, etc. The motivation has always been the word; David Berg’s method of teaching was wonderful & inspired a whole generation of people by using every means & new technology available at his hands to educate young people. If you have a God given talent use it- don’t hide it but cultivate it. I have a desire to keep learning new things & then pass them on to others. Everyone has something or experience to share with our children and that is teaching whether academics or life experience or vocational skills or spiritual fundamentals. Kids need variety of teachers-male and female. God created mother, father, uncle & aunt, cousin, brother & sister to share the riches of life, creation & knowledge in a loving environment. Challenge yes & everyone should fill a burden to help in some way to train each new child & the generation that is going to take your place and by God’s grace does it better.

2.What main advantages can you see in children’s lives, by having a ‘daddy/or male teacher’ get more involved in their training and care? Children need both male & female involvement. They need both a man’s & women’s perception of life to help them perceive & understand their abilities. Each sex have different elements to help them develop their talents and help & encourage them find their way & then a passion in life to help others.

3.How do you make the time for this, as a dad? Do you feel you could give more?If so, how and what do you feel would be the most beneficial to give?
The most valuable element beside love, you can give your children is TIME. This is such an important priority in parenthood. How & what you do with this time is different for each child. You have to pray what you need to give each one. How much time & specifically what you need to do with each one. Don’t let time slip thru your fingers. You tend to regret it. You need to block time for this important element. You can’t always give more, but you can be consistent which means a lot to them.

4.What do you feel the children appreciate the most from a dad?
Listen & react to their needs & have some fun. Projects are nice, goals to go somewhere, see a certain movie. Go to the ballpark.

5.Do you have some ‘all-time-favorites’ as far as special activities that you do with your children?
I believe the favorite of all is traveling, camping, & new adventures. We go to museums, planetariums, zoos, etc. The kids really have enjoyed hiking on nature trails whether mts. or rain forests or national parks.

6.Please share some tips and tricks of the CC-trade, that others could benefit from as well, that you’ve experienced, in working with children. Every child has a key to turn to excite them about life. Don’t be bound by a certain method or curriculum. DON’T BE AFRAID TO BREAK OUT OF THE BOX and experiment and try new things. Every child has a learning style and with that you need to adapt to their learning need. Read & find out what that is. Talk to them, ask others, and learn to have fun teaching.

7.What are the 3 main qualities that you feel are needed in becoming a ‘good daddy’?
LOVE, PATIENCE and a listening & understanding ear.

8.For new dads coming up or just beginning, do you have any word of advice or piece of information that you feel would be a help to them?
When I became a DAD, I read & read & still read how to be a better parent. Read & apply a little at a time. It’s a step at a time, just like them. After a while, you’ll be running with them.
