Montessori Teacher Diploma

From Paula:

For a while there I felt under educated in the area of teaching and felt inferior not having the credentials. Since then I have done more research on homeschooling and have read other homeschooler’s blogs and theories and have come to feel comfortable with my education and training (I have an early learning certificate from CVA). In my mind that is an important place that you have to come to as a homeschooling mom, if you don’t believe in yourself you can’t believe in your kids.
With the Offensive and moving to Mexico I was thinking about something I could do to reach out, have my kids learn Spanish as well as learn something new and expand my horizons. I have done extensive research on obtaining a teaching certificate and it turns out that you have to have a masters or bachelors. You can possibly be a teacher’s aid in a private school without one. When I stumbled across the Montessori site I was very excited not only with the training but the opportunities for me and the kids once I get the certification (they are internationally recognized), especially here in Mexico the Montessori schools are for the upper class and very respectable.
NAMC offers international teaching certificates worldwide through distance learning and the price is very reasonable. $1,900 for Preschool/Kindergarten and $2,900 for Elementary. I personally feel that if a HS student is serious about becoming a teacher that $1,900 is worth every moment. That student will come out feeling capable, confident, and have many great opportunities both in the family and out.
Now on a separate note: I don’t know if Montessori is the all in all. If you can find another course in your area with another school that might be just as good. A friend of mine was telling me that a very nice school in their area offered one of the girls a teaching certificate in exchange for her working with them a day a week. So something like that would work great too if you have the time. For me the Montessori is working nice because I can do it in my free time at night. But you could also make an agreement with a school to teach one day a week and have your kids attend that day as well…win win situation.
Anyways, I’ll stop rambling. I am just very excited about the possibilities that are opening in this department and I feel with all the changes coming in the family that this is just the beginning.
